ADVAN PRESIDENT OSAMEDE UWUBANMWEN SPEAKS BRAND GROWTH AND SUSTAINABILITY
Can brands deliver business growth and be part of the solution to a sustainable future for people and planet?
This was the theme at the Global Marketer Week 2023, the global event for brand marketers, which held in Istanbul this April, for four days of unparalleled insight and industry thought leadership.
The event which hosted over 1000 participants focused on Sustainable Marketing as the central theme of the 2023.
The Nigerian delegation which was led by the Advertisers Association of Nigeria President Mr. Osamede Uwubanmwen gave insights on what sustainability marketing looked like for developing countries
He said ” Sustainability with regards to the third world or developing countries is different from the western world or advanced economies. The developed nations harm the environment in their quest for wealth or greed. They produce items or use methods of production that harm the ecosystem.
While Africa on the other hand harms the ecosystem in their bid for survival. I will give you a simple example. The advanced economies burn fossil fuels to generate power to run their industries or enjoy their high lifestyles,Africa cuts down trees to prepare meals so they won’t starve to death.
For the world to truly practice sustainability, The developed countries need to cut down on their use of fossil fuels for energy while helping Africa economies to grow, so that its citizens earn enough to stop them from carrying out their survival practices that are harmful to the environment.”
The WFA’s Global Marketer Week is an annual event that brings together marketers from around the world to discuss the latest trends and challenges in the industry.
